Administrative Assistant for English

Job Description
Provide administrative support services to the English Department Chair, the Composition Chair, and English Department faculty. This position also supervises part-time clerical staff within department. The English department is one of the University's largest departments, offering general education course requirements as well as an English major with four emphases as well as four minors. Responsibilities
-- Assist department chair with administrative support duties, including but not limited to:
completion of payroll transactions, tracking budgets and other financial data, arranging prospective faculty visits, placing maintenance requests, and taking minutes at departmental meetings.
-- Assist composition chair with arranging adjunct interviews, writing contracts, and orienting new adjunct faculty to the department.
-- Prepare purchase requisitions and/or use of purchasing card for department office supplies, equipment, furniture, copy paper, and maintenance agreements for copiers.
-- Coordinate English Department reception area by answering the telephone, taking messages, and assisting visitors to the department.
-- Hire, train, and supervise part-time clerical staff within the department.
-- Assist department faculty with office set up, scheduling of classrooms/conference rooms on Event Management Systems, ordering desk/exam copies from publishers, and scheduling/catering for department events.
Qualifications
-- Associates Degree required
-- Three years office experience required; experience working in higher education preferred
-- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, faculty, students, and community members
-- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
-- Ability to organize, prioritize, and multi-task with faculty, staff, and students.
-- Knowledge of professional office practices, procedures, and equipment
-- Good working knowledge of computer software such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
-- Good working knowledge of financial recordkeeping procedures.
-- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Additional Information
Terms of Contract:
Full-time (12 month) classified staff position. Annual salary is $26,000+, depending on qualifications and experience. Desired start date:
as soon as possible after closing. Excellent benefits package included.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
